Health and Safety Policy

1. Policy Statement

Bas Brick Works is committed to ensuring the health, safety, and welfare of all employees, contractors, clients, and members of the public who may be affected by our work.

We recognise that construction and masonry activities involve inherent risks, and we take all reasonable steps to ensure that our operations are conducted safely and responsibly.

Our goal is to maintain a safe working environment and to prevent accidents, injuries, and work-related illnesses.

Bas Brick Works will comply with all relevant UK health and safety legislation, including but not limited to:

  • Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974
  • Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999
  • Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015 (CDM Regulations)
  • Personal Protective Equipment at Work Regulations 1992
  • Work at Height Regulations 2005

2. Responsibilities

Company Responsibilities

Bas Brick Works will:

  • Provide safe systems of work for all masonry and construction activities
  • Ensure appropriate training, supervision, and instruction is provided where required
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and materials in safe working condition
  • Conduct risk assessments where necessary
  • Provide appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • Ensure compliance with relevant safety legislation
Worker Responsibilities

All employees, subcontractors, and workers are expected to:

  • Take reasonable care for their own health and safety and that of others
  • Follow all site safety procedures and instructions
  • Use equipment and PPE correctly
  • Report hazards, accidents, or unsafe conditions immediately
  • Cooperate with health and safety requirements on site

3. Risk Assessments

Where appropriate, Bas Brick Works will carry out risk assessments to identify potential hazards associated with construction activities.

These assessments may include risks relating to:

  • Working at height
  • Manual handling
  • Use of construction tools and equipment
  • Structural stability of masonry work
  • Site access and environmental hazards

Control measures will be implemented to minimise risks wherever reasonably practicable.

4. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

Workers may be required to wear appropriate PPE depending on the nature of the work being carried out.

This may include:

  • Safety helmets
  • Protective footwear
  • High-visibility clothing
  • Protective gloves
  • Eye protection
  • Respiratory protection where necessary

All PPE must be used correctly and maintained in good condition.

5. Safe Working Practices

Bas Brick Works promotes safe working practices on all projects. This includes:

  • Proper handling and storage of materials
  • Safe use of ladders, scaffolding, and access equipment
  • Maintaining clean and organised work areas
  • Ensuring tools and machinery are used appropriately
  • Compliance with site-specific safety requirements

6. Accident Reporting

Any accidents, injuries, or near-miss incidents must be reported immediately.

Where required, incidents will be recorded and reported in accordance with RIDDOR (Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations 2013).

7. Subcontractors and Third Parties

Where subcontractors are engaged, they are expected to:

  • Follow Bas Brick Works’ health and safety standards
  • Comply with relevant site safety procedures
  • Operate in accordance with UK health and safety regulations

8. Monitoring and Review

Bas Brick Works will review its health and safety practices periodically to ensure continued compliance with legal requirements and to improve safety standards.
